How long does it take to get scuba certified in Alberta?
Online e-learning at your own pace
Pool training is 3 sessions over three days (2 hours per session)
Open water certification dives are 4 dives over two days.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to learn scuba diving?
You don't need to be a strong swimmer. There is a swim evaluation, which is 200 meters without stopping, no time limit, and you can do any swim stroke you prefer.

Who provides the dive equipment?
All dive equipment is provided for the course by Larry Wedgewood Scuba Instruction.
Can I learn scuba diving in Edmonton and finish my dives on vacation?
Yes, you can do e-learning and all the pool training locally here in Edmonton, and then you will receive your student record/referral form. You can then complete the open dive requirements in a tropical destination within 12 months.
What is the minimum age to learn scuba diving?
At age 10, students can enroll in the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course. The training is very similar to the regular Open Water course, but includes a few age-related limits:
Ages 10–11:
Must dive with a parent, guardian, or PADI Professional
Maximum depth limit of 12 metres / 40 feet
Ages 12–14:
Maximum depth limit of 18 metres / 60 feet (same as adult Open Water Divers)
Must dive with a certified adult
Once a diver turns 15 years old, the Junior certification automatically upgrades to a PADI Open Water Diver certification with no restrictions.
How long is the scuba certification valid?
A PADI Open Water Diver certification does not expire. However, if someone has not dived for some time, a refresher session with an instructor is highly recommended before returning to diving.
