Larry Wedgewood Scuba Instruction is a premier, independent scuba diving educational service. 

It's based in Edmonton, Alberta, and dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized scuba training for divers of all experience levels, and is founded and led by PADI Course Director Larry Wedgewood. 

Our instructional methodology is designed and focused on a foundation of educational quality, personalized attention, diver experience, skill development, and safety. 

This training approach is designed to help divers develop skills confidently while gaining meaningful underwater dive experience. 

Courses are intentionally small, typically limited to one or two students, allowing for true one-on-one instruction and comfortable skill progression in a supportive, no-pressure environment (no pun intended). 

Our scuba programs emphasize hands-on, experience-based skill development, combined with coaching and mentoring.  

For beginner courses, skill development begins in the pool, where students dive and move as they would in open water—building balance, control, and confidence in a safe, controlled setting. 

As training progresses into more advanced courses, new skills are introduced and practiced directly in open water, where divers refine their techniques and apply them in real-world diving environments.

Larry Wedgewood is a PADI Course Director - the highest professional instructor rating in the recreational scuba diving industry. With thousands of dives completed in tropical, temperate, and cold-water conditions across 10 countries, Larry brings a wealth of real-world experience to every lesson, with a rare blend of transformational instructional expertise, mentorship, and passion.

A little History

In 1987, Larry Wedgewood embarked on his scuba career with a PADI Open Water Course at Frank White's Scuba Shop in Victoria, BC. He honed his diving skills as a commercial/occupational diver. He later advanced his education by completing the PADI Advanced, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster courses, before going on to gain valuable work experience as a Dive Guide and Divemaster with Marina Divers in Phuket, Thailand.

When Larry came back to Canada, he completed the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course, then went on to achieve his Master Scuba Diver Trainer designation while teaching at Seafun Divers in Campbell River and at his starting point, Frank White's Scuba Shop.

With his instructor certifications in hand, Larry returned to Thailand and taught there for 8 years while co-owning Kata Beach Dive shop, and then founded "Wedgewood's Aquatic Dive Centre" while achieving the top Instructor rating, by becoming a PADI Course Director in 1994 with an extensive dive log and a deep understanding of the aquatic environment.

Now, with over three and a half decades of global diving experience across 10 countries, including leadership roles at five dive centers, Larry recognizes the need for small, personalized, interactive classes, enhancing students' skills and confidence while focusing on individual needs, and adding in personalized travel opportunities to create unforgettable diving experiences.

Today, Larry continues his passion for educating divers and providing dive experiences through his instructional service, Larry Wedgewood Scuba Instruction, and for professional-level courses, through Scuba Careers. Larry is also the editor-in-chief of the Canadian online editorial Scuba Life.
