Lesson Eighteen: After the Dive

After the Dive

Once you’re out of the water, sit or have a buddy help you remove your fins if you didn’t before exiting. If you must walk with them on, walk backward carefully and remove them as soon as you can. Your instructor will demonstrate how to get out of your kit and take it apart.

  • It’s easiest to get out of your gear while seated.
  • On boats, remember to secure your gear so it can’t fall or roll.
  • Use proper lifting techniques with heavy gear.
  • When taking your gear apart, re-secure your cylinder (on a boat) or lay it down (ashore) after removing your BCD.
