Lesson two: Deep Water Entry – Giant Stride

Course Complete

You will learn several entries into water too deep in which to stand. One may be the giant stride, which is a common entry from charter dive boats, docks and other relatively stable platforms up to a couple metres/several feet above the water.

Giant Stride
  • Enter the water fully equipped with a partially inflated BCD.
  • Remember to breathe from your regulator and hold it, and your mask, as you enter. Hold them until you’re stable on the surface.
  • Look straight ahead and step in – don’t jump.
  • Signal that you’re “okay” and clear the entry area.
  • Switch to your snorkel.
