Breathing Underwater You’ve already learned that pressure increases with depth, and decreases an air volume while increasing its density. Because scuba provides air at the surrounding pressure, as you go deeper each breath takes more air from your scuba cylinder. Therefore, the deeper you are, the faster you use your air.
