Lesson 3
The Effects of Decreasing Pressure on Body Air Spaces As you learned, as pressure decreases during ascent, air expands, and the air you added to a body air space increases in volume. This expanding air must exit body air spaces. Normally, this happens naturally in your ears, mask and sinuses, so you do not need to do anything to equalize them as you ascend.
