In this lesson you will learn about the scuba equipment you will be using in the pool or in the ocean.
Below is the equipment you will use in your Discover Scuba Diving program. During the program your instructor will help you don the equipment and teach you the basics of how to use the equipment.

Your mask allows you to see underwater. It should fit comfortably, snug but not overly tight, with the strap over the crown of your head, above your ears.
Your PADI Professional will show you how to defog your mask so it doesn’t cloud up underwater.

Your fins help you swim underwater. Fins should fit comfortably, yet not feel loose.

Your cylinder holds compressed air. It’s an aluminum or steel alloy container made specifically for storing high pressure air.

1 – Primary second stage is what you breathe from during your scuba experience.
2 – Alternate air source can supply air to another diver.
3 – Air gauge tells you how much air you have in your cylinder. (You’ll learn more about monitoring your air soon.)

Your BCD helps you float at the surface. Your instructor will help you adjust it to fit snugly, but not too tightly.

Because most people tend to float, lead weights will help you descend. Weights may be integrated into your BCD or may be placed on a belt you wear. Your dive professional will adjust your weight to the correct amount.
